Tidehaven: Ale & Trade is a cozy medieval tavern management simulator with hybrid idle mechanics, allowing players to build a thriving inn through active management or passive, background income. Released in Early Access in April 2026, developed by Bunch’o’Nerds, it has a warm art style, satisfying, detailed customization, and engaging, low-stress gameplay loop perfect for “second monitor” play.
While that can sum up Tidehaven, and idle games don’t have a lot of gameplay to cover, as they are designed primarily to be passive games that sit on the bottom of the screen while you actively work or do other tasks.

If you like games like Skyrim, you’ll love the mood of Tidehaven, a thriving medieval inn and tavern. Sell mead and food to locals, provide places to sleep, and engage in mini-games of chance with travelling game masters. You will start small and grow room by room: kitchen, bedroom, a secret meeting room, and more. Grow your village beyond the inn by building a stable, butcher, blacksmith, and well to grow your town beyond the 4 walls. You can start mining underground or smuggling operations.

Because this is an idle game, you can decide how much you want to engage and participate in the gameplay and daily operations. I loved having it run in the background while I worked on other things or watched shows. There is no punishing gameplay with constant difficulties that need perfect planning. You can decorate and unlock items; there is even a skill tree to work through.

The music is as expected. Sounds of bards playing remind you of any games or movies that you would have experienced taking place at this time.
Tidehaven has a few bugs. I’ve lost progression and been softlocked at times. There have been updates that have fixed these issues. This is one of the reasons I waited to review it. There are also many achievements that appear to be bugged. For example, I have unlocked the one for serving 100k customers, but not the ones for 1k and 5k won’t unlock.

Tidehaven: Ale & Trade has a very reasonable price tag and a great entry into idle games. I gushed about it when I played the demo during Steam Next Fest, and I have had it running a lot since receiving a code for the full launch. Despite the small issues I have with it, I am enjoying the cozy vibe, the music and watching my busy tavern and world take shape on my second monitor while working. Build. Brew. Belong.
Until next time…be good to yourself and be good to each other.
**Thank you, Tidehaven, for providing the review code**
