I love live theatre productions. Although I’ve never been one to partake in them, I love the idea of learning more about what goes into planning a show. Now, you’re not getting a theatre lesson in I Want to Play the Villain from Triomatica Games, but you will get an idea of what it might be like to work with a group of actors and their quirky personalities in this theatre- themed logic puzzle game.
The demo is composed of the 1st act and has 18 scenes within the act that you must navigate requests about which type of character the actor might want to play, as well as who they may want to (or not want to) work with. Each actor has their own hopes, dreams and fears. Some of these requests are simple. “I am ready for any role”, or “I want to wear a dress”. Then you get more complex requests like “I want to be a heartbroken character, wearing a neutral-coloured outfit, and I don’t want to work with Liam”. Liam, what did you do?

In order to stage the perfect show, you need to make each one of the actors happy. Starting off with a single scene, as you progress, you will be met with more options. Extra costumes that are not needed, and multiple scenes are on the screen at any one time, meaning you can keep Lucas and Max together in matching costumes if required.

Between mixing and matching the faces of the actors to the costumes of the characters, you will also, at times, have the ability to change the story. Be sure to check the options if you are struggling with making everyone happy. There is no penalty for making an error, just seeing the ‘tragedy’ face instead of the ‘comedy’ one. You can easily swap as many times as you want to create the perfect scene.

As I played through the scenes, I noticed that the characters’ personalities carried through. Meaning, I think, that you should be able to track personalities and stories throughout the entire Act.

The demo is currently available on Steam and took me just over 30minutes to complete. Definitely worth checking out if you are a theatre fan, or a fan of logic puzzles.
Until next time…be good to yourself and be good to each other.
