Go! Go! Mister Chickums…this is a fantastic game for a game that had me exclaming the same thing as I cheered on Mister Chickums in his venture to get his eggs back from the evil, sneaky Grabbo. If you struggle at all, you can always invite your best friend to play as Fritz, Mister Chickums’ best friend in 2 player co op.
Developed and published by com8com1 Software, Go! Go! Mister Chickums is a fun, classic platformer inspired by the beloved arcade games of my childhood, the 80’s and 90’s and the game is even played in 4:3 format. It’s probably why I was drawn to it the moment I saw the first images and trailer.

This simple game style, especially recently, comes with a smaller amount of content, but not this game. You can play through 100 levels (each with its own design), collecting the stolen eggs and placing them in the level’s nest, before the time runs out. Collect bonus items in each level, and at the end of each 10-level gauntlet, beat the boss.

Collecting the eggs in each level starts with very basic skills required, but those eggs are heavy and will hamper Mister Chickums’ movement. While you won’t necessarily be able to jump as high while holding an egg, thankfully, you can toss them up to the platforms above you and jump up to grab them again. Don’t take too long, though; they will disappear and respawn in their original location if you do. Tossing the eggs is also a great way to defeat the baddies on each level.

In keeping with the typical arcade experience as well, leaderboards!! Will I ever top those? Probably not, but it won’t keep me from at least trying to break my own score in each level. Along with the pure nostalgic graphic style and gameplay, (the pixel art is incredible and that CRT filter is *chefs kiss*), a delightful original soundtrack by the incredibly talented Zane Little, comprising 40 original 16-bit tracks.
Go! Go! Mister Chickums encourages replayability. Whether trying to beat your last score or aiming to top the leaderboards, it’s easy to lose a lot of time playing this arcade gem. Shinier than any golden egg you’ll find in the game, I can’t help but recommend this game to anyone who loves the arcade genre.

Until next time…be good to yourself and be good to each other. Until next time…be good to yourself and be good to each other.
