Chowdown Kitty – Take a Meow-ment and feed some feline friends

Chowdown Kitty, developed by Lunar Peace and published by indie.io, is a Match 3 puzzle game where your goal is to simply find treats and feed adorable kitty friends.

If you’ve ever played a game like this, like Candy Crush or Bejewelled Blitz, for example, you know it’s an easy type of gameplay that allows you to pop in and out as you have the time or inclination to do so.  The difference here is that the items you are matching are cat treats of a variety of shapes, each level (and cat) have their preferred treats as well, and you will get additional scoring for matching these treat choices. As you collect the treats for the cat’s bowl, the cat gets fatter, and I loved seeing the happy chunky kitty at the end of the levels. You will get a score and a grade level at the end of each round, with the top grade being P, for Purrfect!

There are also bonus stages with unique power-ups and special kitties to unlock, should you want to break up the ‘adventure’ gameplay that goes straight through the levels.

Seven islands, and a total of 100 levels (each with a cat to collect) await you. As you complete the level,s you get to keep the kitty in your home/lounge. You can decorate your home and dress up your kitties with a variety of items you can purchase with the coins you earn from completing the levels, as well. The selections are rather limited, but this isn’t the type of game where I am looking for depth. The only real downside is only allowing me to have 5 kitties at a time in my lounge. I wanted to be the crazy cat lady with every single cat filling up my room.

This game has simple controls and mechanics, and a delightful soundtrack that fits with the adorable hand-drawn graphics perfectly. It is a game that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of ages and skill levels and has a lot of replay value. Also, for less than $4 CDN, a complete steal on Steam.

I enjoyed this game a lot, and I can see myself popping back in from time to time as a palate cleanser while working or between heavier games.
